How Can You Become More Effective?

Our emails often cover important areas for the business such as sales or e-commerce strategies but ultimately the success of the business is down to successful implementation and in most cases, it is you who has to implement them.

We frequently observe business leaders who are so busy ‘running the business’ they don’t have time to look ahead. ‘Fire-fighting’ and urgent issues take precedence over real priorities.

But what if you could step back and prioritise the business?

Sales are clearly essential in any business, but are those that shout loudest getting all the attention, while others with greater growth potential are ignored?

The trick is to look at the key issues, then decide which could have the most significant impact on the future success of the business.

Think about it, where is your time best spent?

Business owners and managers should focus on things that only they can do.
If you’re dealing with non-urgent issues due to lack of capacity or the perception that your team are not capable, try to ‘let go’ and up-skill your team to free up your time.

One way of tackling this is to write down all the things you want or need to do and then look at the ones other people can do. This should leave you with a shorter list that only you can do, you can then prioritise these based on urgency or impact on the business.

Alternatively, you could only allow yourself to do 3 of them, therefore forcing you to delegate the others.

Whichever way you choose to prioritise, it is important for you to have a method, this will enable you to be more conscious of where you plan to spend your time and on reflection if this is the most effective use of your time.
